Or perhaps a big fat YES! My friend is running 18x9", +15mm on his SC with no probs... and they definitely confuse people. A 17x9", +22mm wheel's outer edge will be at a little over 1/4" more sunken in...
just make sure you don't run too wide a tire, and that you roll your fender lips.

Most ppl will tell you they won't fit because it's not a "practical" size for the streets. Of course, unless you're going for the drifter or VIP flush look. Basically you'll need to roll your fenders, run streched tires (225/235 on a 9" or 245-255 on a 10") plus run negative camber to tuck the tires in to avoid rubbing. Keep in mind that streched tires & excessive negative camber greatly affect the natural handling charateristic of the car. Not to mention a hasher ride and accelarated tire-wear.
I've been researching the widest wheels with aggressive offset possilbe for an SC without wide-fenders and this is what I found so far:
T&E Vertex Soarer uses this setup:
Front: 18x10 +24 w/ 255 tires
Rear: 18x11 +18 w/ 265 tires <--this size might also require a slight "fender pulling"
Once again keep in mind that the above specs is a hardcore "drifter" setup and will NOT provide the optimal grip and wet traction performance compare to a more traditional setup.
IMO everybody love wide & aggressvie wheels with big shiny lips but not everyone can deal with the trade-off.

The SC came stock with over 50mm offset. Running that offset will certainly affect ride quality and will need rolled fenders. So will they fit, techincally yes. Would the car suffer/need modifications due to offset size - YES. Is it practical - NO
So if you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your fingers still.
