Default Tires for LS430

My 2004 LS430 came with Dunlap speed rated tires. I have heard they will last only between 25-30k miles. My local tire dealer says I should repalce them with Michelin MXV. Anyone have any experience with a more durable tire (re: more miles).
If you will, please send PM to: CaptBud330@wmconnect.com
Thanks.

I would also like to find out if there is a tire that is more quiet. The Dunlops are very noisy for such a quiet car.

What are the exact size tires you need for your replacement? I can give you several choices then.

Have you had a chance to check out the Yokohama Avid H4S yet Bud? You might want to check all 3 tires I have suggested & if possible look at the tread patterns with the 3 tires side by side (Toyo Proxes TPT, Yokohama Avid H4S & the Michelin MXV4) you will see what I mean that the Toyo & Yoko will provide better traction with the much more aggressive tread patterns over the Michelin & cheaper to boot!

I have ls430, 2001 with 17" factory wheels. Originals were Dunlop SP Sport 5000. Now they have Michelin Energy MXV4 on them. Got to tell you these things last!!!! Comparing to Dunlop SP Sport 5000, these last about 4 times as long. Trade off is handling in the rain, on dry pavement, Dunlops also beats the MXV4s. Car hydroplanes a lot with the Michelins. I will replace them with the SP Sport 5000 again. I can't take the how the Michelins handle in the rain and around corners. You hit the limit of these tires pretty quickly. So it all depends what you want. Crappy wet traction, crappy cornering with about 80,000 tread life, or, great sporty handling on all surfaces and 20,000mi tread life. Go to tirerack.com and read reviews. You can get lots of info there. Enjoy. Oh yeah...after you get the new set of tires, do the wheel alignment if it hasn't been done in a while.
