Tires-what to buy?
The car is a GS 300, 2001, which has V type tires, would it be ok to put H type tires on the front while the rear remain V type? Any advantages or disadvantages to this course of action? Asking b/c front driver got shredded and need new tires.

It's always best to having matching tires. How much wear is there on the other 3?

Yes, it's best to have matching tires, but if you must (and I did all the time), H rated tires are rated up to a sustained 130MPH and that's more than enough for anyone who's actually paying for their car. Never bought anything higher than an H and don't intend to either unless size constraints limit my choice.

I use what Lexus designed & built the car to run on in my case "V" rated for my 2001 ES. Chances are you will have no problems with the "H" rated tire, but make sure all 4 tires have the same speed rating.
