Question *** 19" fat set up and rubbing? ***

ok, i am referring to 19" tyres and lowering.....

can anyone with 245/40/19+275/35/19 and has ~1.5" drop in the front advice if "rubbing" is an issue?

thank you

oh, to those with 20s and drop more than 1.5" front share your experience too please?

based on tire spec, 19" with fat set up and 20s have ~0.8" taller in overall diameter....

TIA...

will

Hey will, I'm kinda like Rom I only know finger measurements. When I had my car set to a 'tucked' height at all corners it rubbed like hell in the front. I had to keep my EDFC at full stiff just to cut down on it!! I then raised to about a 1.5finger gap and alot of the rubbing when away. Too bad I hated that height because now i have about .75 finger and its in the middle, I rub on big humps.

its just the top of the wheelwell though, nothing too major. I also took those black fenderlip liners off!! (grabbed the one on the right down TWICE!!!)

Wow! Will asking for info on wheels? I had to do a double take when I saw the post. I'm glad to see you are human and don't know everything on wheels. You know you are still the man though.

I'm sure Bit will chime in too since he has 19s with the fat setup.

thanks guys for the quick reply...

neo, yeah, i am extra careful on the car matter, and when i do not have "hands-on" experience, this is when all you CL bros come in, right

but, if you ask me for almost any wheel from the land of rising sun, i can def tell you what it is,

anywho..well, the front is ~1.5-2 finger, if memo serves me correctly.

romi, i am looking at some toyo t1-s, and the offset is +38 front and back

D, thanks again

hey will, haha you forgot the width man. the rear is definitely no problem

for the front, if it's 8.5 +38, then you should be relatively good. with 1.5-2 fingers that's quite some space so unless you hit something very hard you wont' rub the top of the wheel well. when you do hard lock full turns though, you will rub the front and back of the wheel well

if it's 9 +38, then you MIGHT have a bit problem when you hit a bump on the freeway and the outside of the tire rub the outside of the wheel well. that you can't avoid at all.

my front is 8.5 +32, which is the same as 9 + 38, when i were at 1.5 finger, i didn't rub the top of the wheel well, just the outside edge, no biggie. now i am down to 3/4 finger, ia m rubbing the top too when i hit something deep enough

oh and btw, the t1s, awesome tires man, i love them. i want them to be my next set of tires. and i think their tires are pretty square right? if that's the case you would need to be even more careful on the edge rubbing part

Rom, the Toyo T1-S actually has a very slender design, probably one of the slimmest pound for pound, I do alot of driving in NYC and thats why I wont get them, i'm scared about bending rims.

Will I will post pics of cars to show the diff!

Here is a pic of the T1-S in 275/30-20 on a 20x10, look how slender it is! Very sexy, but probaby terrible on potholes!!

Here is a SO-3 in 275/30-20 on a 20x10, and its a little meatier!

and the nitto 555 is even meatier than that!

The sidewall design and offset play a very large part in the rubbing scenario!

D, gotcha. in that case my perelli isn't anywhere fun too, it has NO lip protection at all. and among all the tires i have tried, the so3 is definitely the life saver, though the ride is no where wife-likey

tmasta, you saying that your rear wheel is +39? how wide is it?

Will,

I'm running the fat setup. 19 x 8.5, +39 in front, less than a finger, no rubbing, even fully turned on both sides. 19 x 9.5, + 37 in the rear, and this rubs the edge of the plastic under the fender. It's with no gap, and it rubs on medium bumps, hard turns. My rear T1-S looks pretty darn meaty on a fat setup.

I think the offset in the rear on a 19 x 9.5 should be +41 or so on up to avoid all rubbing/fender mods if you intend to have no gap (and with a fat setup, no gap is almost mandatory to help reduce the meatiness factor). There is an old thread by Cerberus or Manaray (pictures no longer work on it) about Cerberus' fat setup: 19 x 10, +47 and no rubbing with the tire tucked. So I guess the 19 x 9.5 equivalent magic offset is +41 for no rubbing on fatties.

Or you could always go with a 255/35/19 rear tire...

Look how meaty the 275/35/19 T1-S looks on even 19 x 10 (HKS_GS400's car I believe):

that's weird coz' i have 20x10 +43, that's equal to 9.5 +37, and i never rub in the back even before i trim the fender tab. must be close i guess. and no i don't have any finger gap in the back at all

rominl,

That is interesting. I was considering doing the fender tab trimming or fender roll to avoid the rub. Maybe I could get away with a slight trim instead of rolling. I have my reservations about rolling...

DO NOT roll it, that's all i will tell you. and yes, just minor triming would be enough. on the GS there is a little black tab along the wheel well, and people usually take it off and trim the fender. i didn't even take it off, and just trim the whole thing by about 5mm
