Default IS300 Rims on ES300. What Tire Size?

I have 17" IS300 rims on my lexus but the tires look kind of small. Its time to replace the tires so I was wondering what size will be better for the ES300? Currently the IS has 215/45/17.

Thanks for the responses in advance!

215/50-17 is the appropriate size, it's nearly identical to the stock outside diameter. That's what size I run on my summer wheels, per Tire Rack's recommendation.

Same here, they fit nicely, and add a little extra cushion over the 45 series.

I have the IS300 rims with stock bridgestone potenza tires on my 97 Es300.
I was at the mechanic today because there was noise coming from the rear struts.

He put the car on the lift, and pointed out that the tires are rubbing against the struts...

So now it looks like I need to get rid of these rims..as much as i love them.

Any recommendations? Is there any thing i can do to avoid gettting rid of them?

Thanks

I'm not sure what the offset of the IS 300 wheels are, but I have read posts on here of people rolling them with no problem. My 17's are a 42 offset. I don't see how they would work on one ES, and not another. Good luck finding a solution.

IS rims are +50 offset, meaning given equal width, they sit 8mm further inboard than Brandon's wheels that are +42 (I think my Mille Miglia's are also around +42). Some ES owners use spacers to bring the IS wheels out further, though many people frown on this.

A 5mm spacer will hopefully be enough to keep the tire from rubbing. You wont need longer studs on stock rims. I don't usually recommend spacers, but 5mm is so thin that it really has a minimal impact to the suspension strength & safety-wise.
