Default Broke lug nut stud

Rotated the tires yesterday and broke a stud on my 2002 IS300

Lexus quotes me a minimum of $300 (3 hours), this seems outrageous to me but does anyone have any experience getting one fixed? I'm going to take it to a tire shop first, see what they say.

Angry wtf $300

If your mechanically inclined you could replace it in about 15 min. yourself.Thats how long it took for my LEXUS mechanic to replace it on 93 gs300.

Yeah, shouldn't be hard to do. Unless there's something unique about the IS setup, the dealer is trying to bend you over. The stud itself shouldn't cost more than $2 or $3 at a parts store like NAPA. If you've got the tools, remove the wheel and rotor; then knock the broken stud out with a big hammer. Put the new stud in and use a lugnut to fully tighten it into place. It's definitely not a $300 job, so do it yourself or find somewhere else.

Wow, $3 for a part and $297 for labor..That is just outrageous.

Seriously, like Kyle said, it's very easy to do if you know how to remove your brake pads and rotors.

All fixed up, local tire shop did it in a half an hour, $2.50 for the stud and $32.00 for the labor.

Now that's more reasonable. Glad it's taken care of.

Man take it to a Belle Tire (if you have one near you) and they will fix it for free probaly. When I was in High School I worked at a Belle Tire and fixed broken studs in about 2min.

i had got a flat tire on my rim, when i put the spare on i forgot to remove the hub centric ring so when i was drving the spare was wobble wobble stressed out the lugs, when i went to takethem off they broke off.

I can see how that can happen! My previous rims had centering rings and I also tried putting on a spare one time without taking the ring off, but fortunately I realized I needed to take it off before I drove off.

It was either defective or someone had over-torqued them previously, I use a torque wrench at 85 ft/lbs and it broke before I even hit 85, the tire shop told me 90 ft/lbs is what they use, and all the others looked good so it's still a mystery.

Factory spec is 76 lb/ft I believe, which is what I use.

i wouldn't think 76 to 85 would be the culprit but it's worth looking into, thanks.
