I'm running the LS400 brakes, and 18x8.5 +35 Rota Torque wheels on the front. What type of spare tire are you guys using?
My tires are pretty new, but I'm still worried about a blowout.

The obvious answer is LS400 or any modern lexus with big brakes (IS350, GS350). All their oem wheels or spares should be designed to clear the brakes.

The supra TT caliper is a bit larger than LS400, so you'd need the supra tt spare.

Is that what you use?

I’m asking because I wasn’t sure if the resulting offset of the SC knuckle + LS Brakes would be the same as a normal LS. Maybe I’m making this more complex than it really is, or maybe not. I just want to be sure.

I'll be swapping the calipers in a week or so and will test fit the stock spare. I'll post my findings.

If someone already has the answer it'd be handy, as maybe the LS400 I scavenged brakes from is still in the yard with a spare. A lot of if's there.

Stock wheels are much narrower than the aftermarket ones we use, so the offset is rarely an issue. As long as the wheel clears the factory big brakes on its respective car, then the hub should be large enough to clear LS400 brakes. The supra TT brakes on the other hand have a higher profile and require a 3 (possibly 5mm) spacer to clear.

I was using a spare IS350 wheel before when I had LS brakes. Now, I don't have a spare and have AAA tow my car if I have issues. I removed the spare to mount my amplifiers and air suspension components.

Also, if you do go with an oem wheel, remember to keep 5 oem lug nuts in the car.

I have a Enkei/Nissan donut spare with massive caliper clearance.

The common solution to the problem is, if you get a flat up front, move one of your rear wheels up (assuming they are lower offset, which most of us have on SCs), and put whatever spare you've got in its place in back. That's more work, obviously.

i dont want to point out the obvious.. but.. has anyone considered just using a rim/tire combo from the donor LS400?

lots of people have used the ls400 wheel as the spare, it works but not the best looking.

Going a little over 18 months or so since converting to LS400 brakes. Have yet to address the spare wheel/tire problem and also rely on AAA if an issue arises. Being a staggered setup adds a slight challenge as well (but I have no experience, thankfully, to draw from). The LS400 wheel sounds like a good option for a temp solution.
