Started my LS400 brake swap today
...and boy is it a pain so far lol I am also replacing the lines with Goodrigde SC300 lines, which isn't that hard. Took a little work getting the connection at the top correct with the 2 clips and threaded into the hard line and through the bracket, and was a little work wiggling the other bracket into place. I fully removed the dust shield, which wasn't too hard. Just unbolted the 4 torx bolts and took my Dremel to the shield's most narrow section and cut it completely out of the way. I think the biggest pain in the butt of the swap so far is getting the pads to stay in place while you work the pins and spring clip in to hold them in place without the pads falling out without getting grease on the face of the pads from where I lubed up the contact points and the pins.
Took me about 3 hours to fully jack it up, remove the old parts and get the thing setup and the wheel back on so I could set it down and get back at it tomorrow. Hopefully the other front won't take but about an hour, and the rears should be a breeze since they're just slightly larger calipers/rotors of the same design. Then after all of them are on, I'm going to run all new fluid through the system and bleed the brakes. Hopefully the car will be back on the road Sunday or Monday.

I didn't have any problems that I can remember with the pads falling out like that. If you haven't done the other one already, I would suggest shimming between them so they have nowhere to go while installing the pins.
I don't know why everyone removes the dust shield... It serves a dual purpose (dust, duh, and cooling air flow), which can be 90% retained by cutting slits around the edge of it and bending the lip back to accept the bigger rotor.

Which calipers are you planning to use for the rears? It sounds like you are trying to use LS400 rears but I have never heard anyone trying to use those.... Typically Supra TTs are employed (expensive, though).....

He mentioned SC300 brake lines, which tells me he's updating from the smaller SC300 rear calipers even though the SC3/SC4 lines tend to be labeled that way, so installing the LS400 rear calipers would bring him up to what the SC400 has. Probably made more sense to get them all that way than to source the fronts and rears from two different cars.
