question about coilovers with 20's

Hello everyone!

Could anyone help me with my confusion?

I have a 98 GS4 with 20 x 8.5 wheels and 245/35/20 tires. I also have H&R springs with factory
struts. My problem is that IMO I think my car looks too high. I like the wheel well gap but I would
be more content if it was about 1.5 to 2.5 inches lower. I know alot of you might think bodykit, but
I am not sure if i am ready for all that. I really like the way way the GS looks and if I decide on a kit it be a ways down the road. I have looked at tein ha's and am wondering how much farther down I can go without
rubbing or not being able to turn. I also read on another thread something about negative camber
wearing out your tires if you adjust the coilover too low. If someone could "enlighten" me on this I
would greatly appreciate it. I would also, love to see some pics if anyone has 20's with tein or any
other coilover adjusted lower than H%R's.

I found tein ha's on sale for 1025 ( retail was said to be 1895 ) is this good?
I'm not sure if I can post the site, but it's i-m-racing.com

p.s. I did alot of searching on CL but came up empty, so sorry if this has been explained
with pics somewhere else.

Thanks

I have your same wheel setup - go with the TEIN HA's. I dropped mine about 3" and love it! :)

Honestly, if you're just going for the "lowered" look, it looks fine as it is. If you just added a body kit (a MILD one...like a TTE front lip, L-Tuned sides, and something for the rear...), it would look better. The problem isn't the gap between the wheels and fender, it's the gap between the body of the car and the ground.

No offense, it's a personal taste issue (for the most part), but I would put the money towards better quality wheels instead...and then work on a nice mild body kit....

Also, the Tein HA's are $1150 LIST PRICE (right off their website)...they sell for $1000 or less usually. Hit up Steve Ganz (gonzo4u@earthlink.net) for a better price. $1895? Hahaha...that's a good one...the HA is Tein's lowest priced coilover system. Their most expensive coilover for the GS430/400/300 is the Tein FLEX which is listed at $1560 retail...I'm wondering where they got $1895 from?!

yeah HA is cheap, list price is 1100 or so, no way 1895, that's a joke. and since you have 20's, your car is already up from the ground more than the usual GS, so....

I'm just curious where I went wrong? I was going for the "original look" and I also dropped 2 g's on the wheels alone, so their not cheap. I'n not offended, just curious. I've had them on my car for almost a year and never a bad comment...

I apreciate everybodies insight. I really like the look of synergys drop, so I think I'm sold on the teins, now I
will just shop around a little. I'll hit up steve too..

Thanks for all your help

98GS4_STL - I'm glad you weren't offended and that you're intrested in WHY...very few people are able have that attitude after someone says something about their wheel choice! :)

Well here's my opinion. It's never a good idea to get something that is "different" just to be "different". To me, that says that the person is trying too hard to stick out...it would be like wearing a pink leopard skin pattern suit simply because "everyone else" wears solid black suits...

As for the design, I'll email you instead...let's just say that if someone told me those were chrome hubcaps sold at PepBoys, I wouldn't question it. :)

coilovers n 20"s wITH NO RUB!

I recently placed my h&r coilovers on my 99 gs w/20" wheels and 235/45/zr20's I tell you this is a nice sweet mod. I love the look and the feel, very comfy and actually i was impressed with the ride. Could not believe i had no rubbing at all. so sweet!!! I doubt i will be lowering it much, it came down quite abit. Now brakes n steering wheel and i am set.

235/45/20? That seems to be an odd tire fitment to me, most go with somehting like a 245/35/20, what made you choose that size? Just curios!

rominl 04-19-03 11:33 PM

maybe it's 20x8 and not 8.5?

I personally run 245/35/20's, but imo, if you ran 235's youd have to be crazy:eek3:
(not saying I'm not nuts:D ), but I I am certainly not crazy enuf to run 235/35's on my
car, unless for some reason you have a 8" rim or smaller.
I am not sure why you'd do that tho':eek1:

TTurboPimp 04-20-03 08:22 PM

Even with a 8" wide rim, a 45 series tire seems to be a little tall for a side wall.

i believe its...lol

its either a 235/45/zr20 or a 245/35/zr20 nitto...555nt. i can't keep up with those numbers. but i don't rub there 8.5 btw
