Question Big Brakes for 1999 lexus GS400

Hi everyone! I'm new in this forum and I need your help. I have a 1999 GS400 and i'm thinking of putting big brakes on it. Any suggestions as to what brand? I like the looks of brembo and AMG but i'm looking at price around $1500. I saw stop tech too and a lot cheaper. Is it reasonable though? My concern is if i put less than $1000 yet its useless (same as the factory) then is $2000 to $3000 worth it or over kill? I've been doing online shopping but i'm hesitant. Thanks for your time guys!

Welcome to the forums.... For a 1k or under you can go with the LS400 or Supra Big brake kit and still have better stopping power than stock... many are using the LS400 setup and love it... 4 pistons are better than two so they definitely will work. in the 1500 to 2k range your still at the 4 piston setup on most BBK.... 6 pistons are 2.5k and up...

Thank you!!! That was a relief. I'm considering Supra TT now and gonna order soon. Now I'm looking for rear rotors that would look identical to the one in front that comes with the kit. They said I can't put new rotors (rear) without getting new calipers that goes with it... And that's another pair of brake kit...smh 😒

check the Sc300/400 for LS400 calipers and on occasion the GS section.

Who told you that you couldn't get new rotors without getting new calipers? Here's some advice: they have no clue what they're talking about.

I'm running LS400 calipers (along with many others who're running either those or Supra TT calipers), with slotted/cross-drilled rotors and ceramic pads; I have the exact same rotor/pad setup in the rear on the stock calipers.

Thanks for your help guys! I ordered SUPRA TT cal, brembo cross drilled rotors and pads. My main concern is I ordered goodrich stainless brake line specific for GS400. Now, will this fit with the supra tt calipers? I heard you put SS BRAIDED BRAKE LINE specifically modified for this SUPRA TT to GS400 upgrade. Where can I get this? Thanks again for your help!!!

There is no brake line kit for a 2GS to Supra/LS/etc caliper swap. Use the ones you ordered and they'll work perfectly fine.

I have 18" wheel big enough to clear the cal. That's what I heard. Is this right?

you gotta have high wheel offset or a high disk like DaveGS4 said, or use spacers.

I'm thinking of doing upgrade also...there's lots of good information on the 2gs section here but I have not seen one where someone took the time to do a step by step with pictures of just the Ls400 set up, Supra TT set up, or aftermarket set up. I would love to see someone do this.....

check out the 2gs FAQ section. There's a step by step with pictures and parts list for the supra tt upgrade.
