Default GS3/4 ENGINE MOUNTS OEM vs. AFTERMARKET

Hello All,

Curious about engine mounts.
In all your experience, do you prefer OEM Engine mounts or have you tried some aftermarket ones that you liked over the OEM ones?

Thanks for the informative feedback!

I've repaced a few sets, and the OEM ones seem to be softer for sure - don't know that the quality is worse but you can move the OEM ones pretty easily by hand a little bit and the aftermarket ones ( I used beck arnley for the 400 and Roca for a 300) I could not budge at all.

I did not feel a noticeable difference in harshness once installed, in fact each time the car felt much better.

I also would like to know. I'm planning on replacing mines soon, also I'm looking at these aftermarket ones from ebay for 126.00 shipped for all 3 mounts: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321043194644, seems like a great deal.

I wanted to go all OEM replacement only, but don't feel like paying over $100 each right now.

id say go OEM or dont bother replacing them, the car was designed in a way where everything works perfectly together, you dont want hard afermarket mounts with soft oem parts elsewhere, if pretty much everything is OEM, you should keep OEM, especially when it comes to bushings and mounts, the softer ones put less stress on the engine in general so I think lexus made them like this for a reason

How exactly would stiffer motor mounts put stress on the engine? I could see them putting stress on maybe an old or worn out transmission mount, or even making some things rattle in the car a bit, but on the engine itself..?

Yeah nevermind my last posting, I'll stay with OEM. I forgot about Sewell and I don't mind paying 260+ plus shipping for all 3 mounts on that site, compared to their full price. Everything I replaced on my car has been with OEM parts except the spark plugs (NGK). OEM FTW

Some of the cheaper mounts I've bought in the past (not for my GS), looked exactly the same as OEM except they weren't. They were solid rubber instead of fluid-filled like the OEM. They're okay at first but then you notice vibrations later on. If you're close to stock power, just get OEM. I replaced mine 8 years ago and they're still in good shape.

I have aftermarket ones and I havnt had any issues, from long drives through the dessert , hard braking, hard acceleration, some sliding, they work as they should. They arent stiff like what I would toss in an S chassis, but they certainly do the job well.

OK, I can update this - my newest addition to my LExus family is a 99 GS400.

I swapped in a new motor and it needed mounts so I bought the beck arnley ones - well this time I got mounts that are super super soft - NOT an issue - UNLESS you have the OBX headers which sit a little close to the steering U-joint.

My car is rubbing the headers against the U-joint in moderate to hard right hand corners and I can feel it.

I noticed today that I could grab the front of the motor with 2 hands and literally move the motor 1" or more in EVERY direction - even back and forth!

I'm guessing they made them super soft to avoid vibration complaints?

I compared this right away to my other GS4 that had the mounts done a while ago with OEM mounts and I can only move that one maybe 1/4"!

So I am going to go with the Megan mounts since they are stiffer than stock and a little vibration in this car won't bother me.

If they are stiffer than stock, it should cure my header issue.

You might wanna check your steering rack bushings, they might be worn. I had that issue when I installed my ppe headers, I bought some solid bushings from figs and it improved a lot.
