Default KYB GR-2 struts store 8 years: Usable?

Hello all,

I have a 2000 SC300 just taken out of storage after 8 years. When stored I had just bought OEM coil springs, KYB GR-2 gas struts with upper and lower mounts, and poly steering rack and sway bar bushings. I am asking for advice about the struts: They were stored horizontally, not vertically, and moved several times to distribute the oil and hopefully prevent them from drying out inside. Can anyone offer advice as to whether these struts should be used or not? I think they can, but not sure. The car has 160K and the original struts are shot. Thanks in advance!

I think if you were thoughtful enough to store them inside and move them around from time to time then I'd be willing to give them a go if it was me!

Agree with Rudy, I think you will be fine to use them. Another SC being awakened from hibernation, that’s a good thing!

I had everything Installed except for the poly sway bar bushings because I was worried about them squeaking. The car is much improved: Better stability, better steering response due to the poly steering rack bushings. It sits about 1/2" higher, which I expected. The car had sagged after 23 years. Many thanks for the advice. I'm now looking for a good shop/tuner in the Seattle area for a turbo installation. I think that would be around $15k with all the required mods.

Oh man, I bet that thing feels like a brand new car! I'm stoked to hear it worked out so well. Enjoy that bad boy!
