Default 2004 IS Bad Struts..Need Help

So I finally was able to get my 04' Sport Design into the shop. They confirmed I need a new strut. Just curious about a couple things, the car only has 60K on it.

Is this common for factory struts to wear out that quickly?
Can a strut be rebuilt?
How hard is a strut job?
If I have to do a replacement what should I buy?
What is the most cost effective option( just bought a house)

I live in Pittsburgh with terrible roads so I will not want to lower the car at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU ALL!

I just put Tokico's on my 01 with H&R springs. It rides and handles amazing.
