Default So I'm doing ball joints today...

So just joined here, just bought a 99 gs300 at 105 k miles. Reading through the forums, I got afraid of the ball joints scare. There is quite a loud crackling noise when I turn. From reading here of all the horror stories of it failing, i may have gotten paranoid. Ordered some moog bjs and tie rods.

Today I jack the car up, take the wheels off and calipers. Look at the ball joint and see some rusty ball joint that reads "555 fibe" ball joints already on. There was no service records that I got when I bought the car from dealership.

So safe to say these things were already changed. No idea how long ago. The tie rods look oem.

Should I might as well just change it since there is a noise when I turn. Could the noise be sometime else? Should I just put the wheels back on keep these and maybe change it in the next say 50k miles?

Honestly I'd rather put the wheels back on and go about my day. It's about 92 degrees in sunny sacramento California. But that noise does bother me. What else could it be if not the bj.

I'm inexperienced and don't know much about cars except the basic stuff that I learned form diys. If it matters. Any input or suggestions, or maybe what you would do. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Apologies. Figured out the noise. It's a piece of the splash guard? Don't know what it's called, it's bent and hanging down and I assume the wheels hits it when I turn causing the noise.

Can we delete this topic please. Thanks I'm trying to delete and don't see anywhere to delete if possible. Sorry for jumping on here before looking around further. I'm inexperienced and dumb and just want to make sure I do it all right.
