Default Well here goes.....

1992 SC400

MKIV Auto TT LSD

New wheel bearing, with new seals, inner and outer

New Master Cylinder

Ever since I had the right rear wheel bearing replaced, I had had a few issues. I have noticed the brake pedal going to the floor. So then I replaced the master cylinder, seem to help. Rebled again. I then noticed a clunking and grinding noise coming the same side that I had the mechanic replaced the wheel bearing. When it grinds and makes noise, the brake pedal will pulsate pretty hard, and then the car will want to stop and go, due to the caliper sticking it seems. This problem comes and goes. They kept it three times and could not get the problem to duplicate. I have noticed this occurs when you turn the car left or right all the way. It feels that the brake caliper itself is sticking. I bought a new caliper, but before I go further and install it, I wanted to double check you all's opinion.

Has anyone experienced this same issue??

I wanting to get this resolved the next two days or so....

1) did you properly bleed the brakes after you replaced the master cylinder?
2)a sticking caliper is possible. it seems that if you bled the brakes properly, and the caliper is doing the sticky thing as you described it, it sounds like the piston seal is not sealing anymore allowing brake fluid to leak past it.
if that is the case, replace the caliper.

I didn't do the work. I had the local shop perform this particular issue. I do know they used the proper bleeder to do it.

I wanted to confirm that it was indeed the caliper. I will try and replace it tomorrow.

Thank you for the input. Anyone confirm this???

I also wanted to state that the mechanic didn't see any fluid anywhere on the calipers. He checked all four, but the noise and grinding is definitely coming in the right rear. It feels that when it happens a loud popping and grinding, and the car jerks bad, almost like something is loose and/or sticking...

More likely your rear caliper is sticking.... the caliper pistons do not go back after pressing the break pedal. I had that problem in my Yukon Denali ... replaced caliper and rotor (though caliper would have sufficed), problem (noise) disappeared.

Here is a test you can do if indeed it is the caliper sticking... after a short drive , does your wheel get hotter compared to the other wheels ? IF yes, then more likely a sticking caliper piston. It was for me on my SUV.

I am going to put on the new caliper tomorrow evening. I forgot all about trying that method for excessive heat. Thanks for the tip Gerrb... I will post back my findings in the next few days!!!!

I installed the rear caliper, and I have felt it one more time. I am now thinking it is something in the rear parking brake. I am going to drive it around and investigate it further. I did see some of the pins on the parking brake assembly were bent. I am not sure if they rebent them back and reused them. Sometimes I hear a little bit of a grinding noise on that side of the car when I release the parking brake handle.

Oh yeah, I meant to ask can the parking brake inner pads on the inside of the rotor slip or fall due to anything???

Hey mark. Hope you got your rear brake issue resolved , I had a similar problem when I replaced my rear brakes ended up disabling my e brake. It's a PIA to needs with those shoes etc.

actually when I first got my sc, I had to change the ebrake shoes
it turns out there are little springs on what appears to be nails that provided tension to keep the shoes from moving
mine were worn out and didn't allow the parking brake to engage.
it is possible the hardware did go bad.

also if your caliper was sticking like mine was then it could have worn the pads unevenly and worn the rotor down more than the other 3. I would also check the caliper brackets. My front left caliper was bad because the bracket piston was stuck. one issue caused the other. this made the car jerk when braking at highway speeds. i replaced all pads all rotors bad bracket and all caliper (ended up getting a good deal on all 4 calipers with only 70k miles) issue gone. something like this is the same as the thread that pulls and pulls on a sweater. issue causing more issues. you may need to do the entire brake job
