Default Do you need to add grease to the lower ball joints?

Hi guys, I searched but could not find an answer to this. I just replaced bothmy lower ball joints on my 99 GS300 with Raybestos, which are 555's made in Japan. The question is, they have a bolt on the side and a zerg fitting (i think that's what it's called) that you can replace the small bolt with. Do these come greased from the factory or do you have to add grease?

Thanks much for any insight!!!

Yeah, I drove like 10 miles on it, I hope I didn't damage anything. There seems to be oil in there rather than grease?

My MOOG BJs came dry.

They required me to install the Zerk and hit them with a grease gun before installation.

Chances are that if they come with a Zerk, they need to be greased

Yeah, I'll install the fittings and grease them tonight, I just wasn't sure if there was any chance of damage driving the 10 miles or so since they only appeared to have a clear liquid lubricant the consistency of WD40 from what I can tell.

yes definitely need grease in the Moog's
A picture just so you know to take out this small black screw on your Moog's and screw the Zerk fitting in. Then take a grease gun and squeeze about 2-3 triggers of grease into that bad boy

I would rather have the grease zerk this way you can grease them periodically. Just don't overfill them (use a hand grease gun not one you connect to your compressor)

Put the zerk fittings on and gave it 4 trigger pulls of Mobil1 synthetic grease from the grease gun. I know that normally the zerk fittings stay in, but can you take them out and put the small bolts back in?

The Moogs have a relief slit built into the rubber.

Doubtful. They are very cheap and messy, so I don't think it's worth anyone's while.

Hey Guys,

Bring this thread back alive. I just purchased raybestos lower ball joints and installed them. I noticed they had a grease fitting (zerk) in the box, but i just figured they would have been pre-greased... well after i installed i drove to mechanic to get an alignment done and some other stuff, and i noticed that i heard a grinding noise when i left my house while turning out of my driveway.

Sure enough, when i got to the mechanic he said that the ball joints don't come pre-greased and they are likely ruined now because i drove on them without any grease in there.

What are the chances that they need to be replaced? The mechanic greased them for me, but i can still hear some noises, but I've only driven from the mechanic's place to my home, so i don't know if i should give it a little while for the grease to penetrate.

Do you guys think i should replace them?
