us tt supra/ls400 brake upgrade looking for some answers please
Hey guys I got a 98 gs300 and braking suck on it now I know there is already threads talking about ls400 brake setups and I was plan to buy a ls400 brake setup from another member but now I thought that since I work at Autozone I can just buy them new and get a discount and my question is what all is needed to fit tt supra brakes is it the same as the ls400? Which is bigger?

supra TT calipers are what u are looking for. they bolt on directly, you will need to trim the backing plate to fit the larger rotor. the supra TT does use a larger rotor compared to that of the LS400.
ls400 needs roll center adjusters to push down the lower ball joint to clear the bigger caliper. but other than that, it bolts up directly.
- rotor size between supra TT and ls400 differ by 1 or 2 mm in size, its not drastic difference,
pros and cons
- supra tt direct bolt on, no need for roll center adjusters to push down the location of the lower ball joint.
- ls400 are aluminum, much lighter than the supra tt calipers which are cast iron. the ls400 calipers are even lighter than the stock gs300/400/430 calipers. but to fit, u need RCA's the mounting bolts for the calipers fit exactly to the GS.

i work at autozone and before my shift was over i decided to pull the parts to a comparison but what i dont understand is you guys look the pics below as you can see the big one is the ls400 and the small caliper is the gs300 i dont see no similarity in where they should be bolted up they look way different from each other

the ls400 and supra tt calipers are monoblock calipers
the oem gs300 is a floating caliper.
what you are missing in the picture is the caliper bracket that the gs300 caliper bolts to. the caliper bracket is then bolted to the hub.
the ls400/supra TT caliper does away with the caliper bracket all together.

SorrGwa is absolutely right...
there should be another piece that attach to the gs300 front brake.
Bcause the LS400 rotor is bigger than the gs300/400 so that caliper of course bigger a litter bit.
To go for Supra TT the pros... yeah there are many rotors to choose, but TT caliper cost more...
the cheapiest for somone lucky enough to get them I think around 200 up... Last time I saw on Ebay there is a pair of front TT caliper with rotors.... for 250... which is very cheap... just 1 or 2 days and it's gone!!!
LS400 is cheaper around 150 under....
yeahhh rotors are not that varities... but still look good and brake perfect.
I will put Ls400 into my Gs soon.
Of course RCA is always the option and it's a professional way.... "Don't grind the calipe rand bolts"
Figs redesign them and cheaper 150.

i have the figs tie rods but will be going back to oem due to having RCAs already.
the main purpose of the RCA is to lower the position of the lower ball joint, you need this to clear the LS400 as they sit and interfere with the tie rod ball joint end.
the figs tie rod is adjustable. but the adjustable portion is where (vertically) the attach point of the tie rod relative to the tie rod's end ball joint. in essence, this allows the tie rod to be adjusted as horizontally as possible (reducing bump steer a bit) relative to the ball joint. however the ball joint itself, when attached to the steering knuckles ball joint, stays exactly in the same location, which should interfere with the caliper.

I think if you can get a decent price for Supra TT caliper and rotors.... ( last time I saw on ebay there was a pair of caliper and rotor for Supra tt
for only 250... free shipping... it was gone for a few days...)
Yes, unless you can get a cheap Supra TT calipers and rotors... or else go with the Ls400.
Cheaper lighter and performance almost the same.

I'd go with TT calipers for sheer ease of install and better pad support. LS400 are good option, but I don't really think they are the best option for a GS personally. "Weight savings" isn't going to matter to the people who bag their car or put big wheels on them.
