springs w stock struts?
#2
^ there has been quite a bit of discussion on this in other threads. I've found that it really depends because some people have said that their stock struts have blown after only 7k miles and some up to 60k plus miles. I'm putting H&Rs on my 07 IS this week and plan on running the stock struts until I notice anything.

im going with megan springs and had planned on running stock struts, one of my friends said thats a bad idea, that you have to change struts to avoid a failure of the stockers.

I dropped my car on Hotchkis springs. 1.4 inch drop up front and I used my stock struts that have 58,000 miles on them. I've put 4,000 miles on it so far and no problems. Only complain is with the springs, the coils slap each other when I hit any dips in the road. I also don't really dodge potholes and drive as if I'm not lowered. If the struts do blow, time for coilovers lol.

The first thing you will notice when you have worn out shocks is deterioration in ride comfort which is quite evident when passing over potholes and dips. if the vehicle constantly feels like it is being jarred or struck from below, odds are the shock absorbers are no longer doing their job.
Examine the shock for any evidence of leaks or streaks of dirt. When the seals holding the hydraulic fluid inside the shock absorber fail, the oil-like fluid will leak out of the shock, leaving telltale trails of brown on the sides of the shock absorber.

blown shocks will also cause uneven tire wear...
I had lowering springs (2.5"front, 1" rear) on a different car and the oem shocks were blown in less than 2 years.
I would just go with coilovers or a matching spring/shock combo to start with because the labor cost for installing them at different times is redundant
