Default Front brake job $895 @ Dealer

Dropped car off today for oil change and let advisor know front breaks were squealing. I just received a voice mail from service advisor quoting me $895 for front break job and $175 for a break fluid flush. Dealer is Pohanka Lexus in Chantilly, VA which I normally have no issues with.

I assume the cost includes rotors, but even if it does over $800 for a front break job is ridiculous. Do I really need a break flush? The car is a '07 IS350 with 69,000 miles.

I don't want to attempt the break job myself, should I just bring it to another dealer or a local shop? Thoughts?

Eric

call around and get other quotes. i have replaced the front rotors and pads and never did a flush but plan too on my next change. a brake job honestly is fairly easy for 800 dollars why not at least try it yourself or ask a friend parts wont even cost half that price.

You could do your own front brakes for under $300. Dealer quoted me $85 to flush out the fluid. Don't know why it would be $175. Even $895 for a full brake job is still a lot.

But if you don't want to do it yourself. Just bring it to a local shop. Brakes pads are easy to change and rotors aren't too difficult. They can do it in under an hour probably. And at 69,000 miles, if you never changed your brake fluid before, you probably should flush it out too.

Just got off phone with advisor and politely declined his offer. He did mention break fluid should be flushed every 2 years? Anyone hear that before?

Gotta love the dealerships. You would think by being more competitive the dealership may do more service work? Or maybe the high prices make it all equal out in the end.

I am going to call around locally and get pricing or may try and do it myself. Thanks for all the input guys.

That's recommended under extreme driving conditions. But if you've never exchanged the brake fluid ever, I would suggest to do so. Over the years and miles, your brake fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and reduces your cars braking strength. I'm not saying take it to the dealer or not, but the service itself is something to consider too.

i paid around 700 for my brake job at lexus but it included two rotors that couldnt be machined. I had them price match Sewell on the parts. but I still got raped on labor....only good thing was it was already getting other work so I got a 2011 ES for 4 days which I used to go to Sams Club and Home Depot to buy large items and things like mulch which I wouldnt dirty my own trunk with. I was still nice though and put down paper so that any filt was minimal lol

I am in Alexandria as well across from Huntington Metro. I don't have a spot here to do the job. Do you have the tools/location to do the job? What works best for you? PM me your info and what kind of beer you like and we will work something out. I'll buy the break kit on Sowell's site so may be a few days.

They gave me an RX Hybrid for a loaner today. Never driven a hybrid before, not a big fan. The new Lexus NAV is a step up but still not nearly as nice as the other luxury brands.
