Should I get brakes at a dealer or a brakeshop?

Default Should I get brakes at a dealer or a brakeshop?

I was told I needed new brakes after 36K miles, my dealer is charging $299.00 for the front and same for the rear. When I got my tires done, my tireshop said they can do premium brakes for $350.00 for front and rear. This is my first time getting the brakes replaced. Any suggestions of where I should go?

That's some crazy money they are asking, I never knew it cost that much just to do brakes. My opinion is to buy the oem pads yourself for a little under $100 and do it yourself. If you arent comfortable or don't have enough time to do it yourself I suggest you buy the pads and take it to a good little shop.

always go with oem pads (unless you are racing). I put some "premium" aftermarket pads on mine and they make alot of noise. I ended up putting oem pads on two months later.

Agree completely. OEM is the way to go if you are not taking it to the track. Also, it is really easy to replace yourself. There are probably Youtube videos for it.........
