Question Tein

Hey guys...

I am finally getting the Tein Flex installed tomorrow.... I am driving on stock is300 17's with Toyo 235/45zr17. I am also using spacers on the front and rear. 15's and 25's respectively. Can I get some feedback on what I can expect to change... Besides the look of course. Good, bad, indiferent. Please let me know. I want to make sure I know what to expect. I don't do much aggressive driving. I mostly wanted to reduce the front gap and give it a sportier look and feel. A couple of questions I have....

1. What is the ride quality I can expect?
2. Driving experience/handling?
3. Alignment issues?
4. Life of the product?
5. Bouncing?

Lightbulb Tein

Here is the rear.... I don't know why it looks like my car is messed up, but don't worry... The car is fine. Those are not scratches.....

Sweet! I am personally installing mine on thursday!

From what I have read in the past...

3) You will probably have some chamber issues in the front of the car which is normal for lowered cars...something like +6...don't quote me though!

4) Life of product...keep the threads covered with anti-seizing compounds or the one supplied by TEIN. I live in MI, so my car will see salt...gotta do this! Other than that, the quality of the coilovers as compared to the flimsy stock ones is impeccable!

The only real way to know is to go for a ride in a car with your setup. For me, since I have 20's, I can't give you good description of the change...plus I have all the other suspension components.

You should definitely notice better handling. It will be a bit sitffer...camber is only an issue if you lower the car a lot...if you get 20's or something that matches the overal diameter of 20's (like on 19's, if you do 245/40-19 and 275/35-19), then you enjoy the following benefits...

1) Car is raised 1/2"...so if you lower the car 1", you only loose 1/2" of ground clearance...

2) With the larger outer diameter, a 1" lower job is the same as 1.5" lower job with standard outer diameter wheels (so your fender gap is 1/2" less)

3) Your camber isn't affected as much because you don't have to lower it as much to get that lowered look.

4) If you go the "oversized" 19" route, you'll get a smoother ride since you're sidewall is larger.

IMO...a 35/30 series would look much better on the 19s

actually, the 35/40 won't be "fat" or really noticable compared to the 35/30 setup...it has a lot of benefits...one of our member did that on his GS (a burgundy one)...looks good...Unless he pointed it out, I doubt many people would know it's a 35/40 setup...

Manaray,

I had the similar question and glad you pointed it out. I like the bigger sidewall because I would prefer a smoother ride. I couldn't figure out why people would throw on the 35/30 but I guess looks means more than the ride. The fact that you mentioned you couldn't tell the diff. unless someone pointed it out sounds real good.

Anyone elso want to chime on these issues, I'm all ears.

cmc..

on 19s, 40/35 is def good choice if you concern the ride quality..just one thing though, the tyre selection is more limited...what model do you have?

Default Tein install

Ok, I have the tein kit installed, but I have a couple of questions...
First of all, I was not impressed with the first driving impression. It was VERY stiff. It felt like there was no shocks. It also squeaked a little. Am I just being senile or am I missing something? I called to the shop and they told me that Tein shipped the kit at 16 in stiffness. I could adjust the comfort to the other side and it would be much diferent. My questions are the following; First, how much can I change the comfort without bouncing, and two, how do I adjust the height on my own?? I was told this kit is superb. I have the Tein Flex. I am running is300 17's and a 25mm spacer in the rear. Please help...

turn the **** for stiffness counterclockwise until it stops, that's the softest settings, pretty much like stock

It also depends on how they adjusted the shock's height...it sounds like they might have adjusted the top adjustment all the way down which would lessen your shock travel. On the FLEX, the bottom must be adjusted to a certain level first...this is the advantage of the FLEX instead of the others (like the HA and CS), you can adjust the height w/o affecting the amount of travel the shock has...

Try setting your dampening to 0/0...it being super stiff doesn't sound right...who did the installation? I never noticed a squeak...but then again, I drive with my music turned up...

Also, on the adjustment, from 0-16 will not make slushy to Forumla 1 track ready... It will make it from somewhat soft to somewhat stiff...

Default BEWARE!!!!

The TEINS can be set further than 16 clicks, which is not what you want to do...Be careful when turning your "clicks" and make sure you count them!

BTW...the only reason I would not use the 40/35 is for the increased height you will have...basically it would be like running the same diameter as 20" tires with the lower series.
