Default Seized brake Caliper 3rd time

Hi guys,

Maybe someone can offer me a little insight on to what may be causing my driver's side caliper to seize for the 3rd time, about once a year since I had the car. My master brake cylinder has been whining and making the screeching sound in cold weather. I have a 2000 GS 300, I bought a used master cylinder from an 01+, haven't installed yet – you think the cylinder could be related to the caliper siezing some how?? Probably not, any thoughts are appreciated before I bring it to another mechanic and spend mo' money $$$$$

When a caliper seizing sometimes the only option is to replace the whole caliper or have it rebuilt. Changing out a master cylinder doesn't correct that process.

Rebuilding the caliper is super simple...new seals, rubber boot, and lithium grease. Be generous with the lithium grease.

how did the caliper seize? did it get stuck close? or open?

The master cylinder "can" have something to do with it. There 4 metal lines connected to it and if he has a problem with one specific area, I would definitely check the "line" out or just replace the cylinder. just my .02.

I have seen some WEIRD things like this. Not even "theory" could explain some of the stuff I have came across.

Thanks for the input guys.

Went to the mechanic today, both front calipers seized in a closed (braked) position. The car was dragging. 3rd time this happened already...so this time they put new hoses in too along with two calipers, pads and rotors, so hopefully this helps. I had to go to STS since my car was pretty much undriveable and they were the closest. So I got raped for 700 bucks, and nobody wants to put in my used master cylinder part due to liability issues which is BS....So I posted a request for an install on clublexus if anybody is local and could do it in NJ. Got a few responses, just have to check out references....One member actually quoted me $69 to install including brake line flush. Sounds like a good deal. I'll keep you guys posted. But now my break pedal feels a little soft and low...So im going to keep an eye on that...

A lot of places won't install a used part that functions as a critical part of the vehicle. I don't blame them either for liablity reasons.

To the OP glad to hear you got it sorted

This would have been the perfect time to do the LS400 or Supra TT brake upgrade, especially for the amount you paid. Hope everything works out for you.
