blown LBJ...after 10k miles?!?!?!?
so last night, right as I was pulling out the driveway at a friends house...I hear a clunk in the passenger front suspension. i paused for second, but continued reversing slowly and no issue. now as I move forward and start to turn the wheel, the front passenger side just drops...immediately I though lower ball joint.
and yup...sure was, the LBJ gave out and ripped apart my fender
what's worse is knowing I just changed this piece about 10k miles ago when I first bought the car, due to it's repeated issues here...and just trying to be preventative.
so now i'm on the hunt for a couple parts, might need a new knuckle and lower control arm...great way to start of the long weekend, and my bday!

yup...local lexus dealer. it was an OEM part, don't know if it was just defective or what. i torqued all bolts to spec even had my mechanic put it on the lift, double check and re-torque everything 2-weeks after install. crazy that it went after 10k miles...

well here's a little update...
was checking out the damages this morning and couldn't really see anything other than the LBJ giving out, causing the damage. definitely a defective part IMO and will be contacting my dealer to discuss as, again, it has about 10k miles on the part.
i did notice grease leaking from the tie rod end, but nothing to really indicate the tie-rod end failing. this is probably due to the knuckle/wheel jumping out of the lower control arm when the LBJ failed.
plans are to do a front end suspension revamp...hubs, bearings, tie-rod ends, new LBJ's, bushings and so forth. i hvae new KYB struts on the way and am raising the car up on eibachs from the tanabe's that's currently on the vehicle, as well. will also need a new sensor on the passenger side as my VSC and ABS lights are on.
sucky wknd...especially considering it ruined all the bday plans and my mood, but if the Jets win today, I'll be more than satisfied with the how the wknd turned out!

it's more of being a hassle than actual work IMO. the hardest thing is going to be the waiting game to get everything from the different sources and respray the car. still sux...thx for the wishes

i'm not to sure on being the first...hopefully it's just a freak incident and i'm singled out from the rest, but u never know
i would replace them every 40-50k to be honest...thats a good few years in between changes and $125 to replace both over a few years is surely worth it for the added safety IMO

definetly don't need the wheel falling off and having to fix/replace/paint a fender though
