Question Stock suspension and when I hit a bump small/big back slams on my passenger tire.WHY?

Hi guys I'm new to the Lex...just picked up a 01 GS430 put on some 19" Sterns rims.

I have 19x8.5 in the front wrapped with 245/40/19 (no rubbing at all)
In the rear I have 19x9.5 wrapped with 255/40/19 and when I hit a big or small bump in road the passenger side wheelwell slams onto my tire and you can see its eating away at my tire.

I would like to know from those who know if the tires i'm running now are too big? I was thinking of getting 245/35/19 to see if that fixes problem or should I go with a different size? Or is the with of my rear rims at 9.5 too wide for this car?

I really just want to eliminate this problem completely....I also heard people take about rolling their fenders but what does that do and how much does it cost?

Thanks CL peeps

Currently your rear setup is a touch to large. This can easily be corrected by rolling the fenders. Any good local tuning shop should be able to do it for 50-150/side. They will heat up each side then gently roll it with the tool. You will run the risk of paint chipping and may require a repaint. Make sure that no one uses a baseball bat to roll your fenders either as it isn't uniform no matter who is doing it. Get it done soon because you've already compromised your tires and they might need to be replaced for your safety.

Rolling is okay for the front, but you're going to have to shave the rears.

Thanks I'll look into that.

Shaving will shred your current setup more.

I'd roll and pull the rear fender and then you can tuck the wheels after you get some coils or springs

i would recommend you educate yourself on all aspects of the GS before modding, as you can see from the results. the problem is not your tire size but wheel offset, which you have failed to provide. im running 275/40/19s without a problem.

have you done any visual inspection of your suspension components, besides throwing wheels on it? your rear shocks look like they are blown. word of advice, 19s especially sterns are on the HEAVY side and will stress the **** out of both your front and rear suspension components, ball joints/steering links and shocks. plus changing the performance of brakes and handling characteristics of the car.

your rear wheel looks dented. why even put it on the car? to each's own i guess.

you like many other GS owners are more focused on the way the car looks and disregard performance and most important Maintenance.

As stated above; roll/pull or change tire size

you're right and that why I'm hear asking questions now to educate myself... This rim set was given to me for free by a friend and they are 35mm offset and fit perfectly. But this issue I'm more focused on knowing what is causing this problem. I will look into different rim set now that I know what you have told me.

Check out the tires on some of those with similar specs on their wheels:

However, I'm surprised that you're rubbing like that. I'd be leading more towards a blown shock being the problem, however a smaller tire would be nice maybe not so much the profile (cause it'll create a much bigger and weird looking gap), but maybe stretch it a little with a not so wide tire. but as mentioned, if you shave the rear lip, you'll probably eliminate all the rubbing indefinitely:
