Default Rear Brake Rotor Change

I have a 1999 GS300 with 109K that I am doing a rear brake job. I wanted to change both pads and rotors. Pads look pretty straight forward, thanks to this site, BUT, the rear rotors look a little tricky.

Do I have to take off the center nut to get them off? Or are they just stuck? The new rotors do not have a center section to hold them on the axle. Does that center section held on by the nut come off the old rotors for use again?

Just joined and hope I can get some help! Thanks.

First of all, welcome to CL.
And before everyone starts chiming in, remember to search. There are tons of threads posted about rear pads/rotor.

Remember to make sure the parking brake is not engaged when trying to remove the rear rotors.
Good luck to you

nah...its rusted on there....remove the calipers off the rotors...place aside.

all you need is a sledge hammer...I think I used a 4 lb hammer and banged the rotor about 15 times as hard as I could....it eventually broke free.

the other option is to use the stock jack....with some 2x4 lumber....and wedge it in there where you use the jack and slowly crank it to push the rotor off the hub.

Great to join the group. I did some searching and just was not able find it. Will work on the search feature.

Thanks for the info ****...helped a real lot. Ever get your hands dirty?

PHML....did exactly that with the hammer and they both broke free. Really could not see the seperation point but was clear after 10 wacks. From there it was easy. Rotors and pads went together fine. Thanks for the info.
