Default Removing my front brake shims

My brakes have been squeaking since I bought the car, but the brakes and rotors are less than 6 months old(tons of pad left). So this weekend I looked at the front shims and they were beat to hell, flaking and stuff. I greased them up and for a few days there was no squeaking. But today it is back, should I just go without shims because I cant seem to find a place to just buy shims without pads?

The purpose of brake shims is to maintain uniformity between the brake piston, brake pad, and the rotor. Removing the shims will cause your brake piston to directly touch the pad and will likely result in cracking or chipping of the brake pad overtime.

Brake noise can come from many areas of the brake, but try apply liberal amounts of brake grease to the rear after cleaning the brake piston/shims. The quality of the brake grease also matters if you want it to last.

Yep.. thats the stuff. I usually either use one of those disc brake quiet and spray it behind the pad or apply anti-seize instead.

and make sure that it's not one of the two metal clips that you mount the pads onto. I changed my pads recently, and after the fact heard a slight squeel noice on the passenger side. So next day I took the wheel off and looked at the pad through the side to notice one of the clips was pushed forward a little against the rotors and was making the noise. Sometimes people mistake certain noises as coming from the pads when its not. But that what i get for not double checking my work after i was done the first time, lol.

I greased them up real good the passenger side front is good but my side is still squeaking. One of the shims I noticed it bent a little so I am gonna just remove it and see if it goes away.
