Default Coilover Spring Rates - Not all coilovers are for racing only!

Here is a list of coilover spring rates of available coilover systems that I've put together...these are for the JZS16x and JSZ147 Aristos (aka: 2nd GS300/GS400/GS430 and 1st generation GS300). All numbers are Kg/mm^2 and the lower the number, the softer the ride. I have listed them from softest (near stock) to stiffest (hope you have a well padded ***!)...however, some setups use pretty stiff front springs with soft rear springs so it's not an exact softest to stiffest list...

Generally, the dampening rates are matched to the springs (so soft dampening with soft springs)

There are a few missing (like H&R...I'm calling them tommorow) so I'll update this list as I get them...if anyone has additions or corrections, please post in this thread...

I'd love to see how H&R fits in here. Looking foreward to seeing their numbers.

Sorry, I don't have stock numbers...I tried to talk to a few people at Lexus and they looked at me like....

I'm gonna try another avenue for the info...

I'm guessing it's like 2/1 The stock suspension is like Jello(TM).

Nope, those jackasses in the US office didn't have that info on them (they're just a overglorified distro site anyways)...one of the guys said he'll shoot an email off the German to get the numbers...I'm not holding my breath....

Manaray, since you have had them on your car, where would you say they stand?

I'm gonna guess around the same as the Tein CS...but it's hard to tell, all the different coilover setups I've tried have been on different cars or different setups...I haven't tried another set of coilovers on a car that is set up just like mine or even as similiar...

Default What about

What about info on non-coil-over springs like L-Tuned, H&R, etc.

That would be a good comparision as well as stock.

Sorry, don't have that info. Personally, I'm not an advocate of doing just a spring change to lower your car as the stock shocks are not designed to work in a constantly compressed state...

Default True

But you were comparing the spring rates, not dampening correct? So why not compare spring rates of the different springs... unless that info is unobtainable.

Ryan

And yes, struts should be replaced.

so does anyone make a coilover that is softer or as soft as stock, then you can switch it to fairly stiff?
