Default CV Axle - Parts & Suggestions

I’ll be tackling a CV axle replacement soon. I understand OEM is the way to go but I was curious on other options out there.

I came across SurTech, FEQ and Duralast. Has anyone tried these brands?

Does anyone have favorite retailer for these items? Partsgeek?

Thanks in advance!

I have had several Toyota vehicles where critical area's demanded OEM only parts. However, some of the less critical area's, I purchased chain store parts as you mentioned Duralast. I never had luck with that plethora of garbage. The several times I tried them out of desperation, the parts were all notably small diameter, weaker joints, just had large inconsistencies to the OEM part.

I did have luck with Import Direct series from O'Reillys, It's their premium brand option, but everything I used worked fine for me and had equal integrity to stock parts. Plus they have lifetime warranties on them, too. Being a Lexus owner for under 2 weeks, maybe one of those other two brands you listed is notoriously better, but that is my .02. At least with the chain stores, you see what you're getting before paying for it.

I didn’t consider checking O’Reilly. It seems each of my mentioned options has an attached warranty.

I can aquire the CV axle for around $100 each. Lexus OEM will set me back $875.

My IS has 120k on it and at this point of its life cycle it makes sense for me to not go OEM. Even if this part lasted me 30k, it could easily be replaced again.

Thanks for the heads up!

Try going remanufactured... they rebuild OEM lexus axles which is way better than aftermarket and not as expensive as brand new OEM.

That is what I did a few months ago. My tire shop used a company that offers a lifetime warranty on the part, and it cost about the same as a new generic unit.

OEM or OEM remanufactured. Aftermarket CV tends to suck because they usually don't have the right quality (non heat treated). A few exception would be the aftermarket that also makes for OEM and use the same quality.

Stay away from A1 Cardone unless you are just fixing it to trade in.
