Default Stiffer Springs on Coils = Damaged Balljoints?

hi guys, im thinking about rolling on stiffer springs because my car is so low that i want it even stiffer now on my coilovers. im thinking about getting 14kg in the front and 12kg in the rear. the question is that i wanted to run 16kg in the front and 12kg in the rear. people's telling me i shouldnt do that because its going to be too surpressed or something im not sure what i can do any thoughts? plus i heard if i run TOOOOO stiff, i will damage my balljoint. please advice. thanks guys

The japanese guys ive noticed run huge spring rates so they can ride so low with camber and not kiss their rims on their fenders. That said, there is no doubt it puts more strain on all other suspension components including ball joints, because with rates that high there is no give in the suspension over certain bumps and dips and the vibration and impact is just transferred straight onto the other components such as ball joints.

i would say just try and keep a spare set and keep a close eye on the joints and change them out when needed if you want to sit that low. Also try going on VSC and asking those guys, or someone like Grant, they may have more insight since they are in Japan.

At the end of the day its just going to be the price you pay to be that low really.

you're going to need shocks to go with the stiffer spring. i'd send the coilovers back to the manufacturer and have them rebuilt properly (instead of just swapping out for a stiffer spring).

stiffer spring = less suspension travel. another option is to run pre-load for front driver side, and any other sides that you might be carrying passenger/loads. this way the weight won't drop your car's height at all as long as it's within the threshold.

Stiff isn't what's going to kill the ball joints. It's how much you're lowered by. The lower you go, the more stress the balljoints endure due to the angle that the joints are sitting on. Those who lower their car a great deal will have to change the joints earlier.

The first question I ask people when they want a set of coilovers that can be slammed to the ground is do they want to sacrifice ride quality for looks or do they want to look good and sacrifice ride quality. From there, I can point them in the right direction.

Most HKS dont go over 14 for the fronts and 12 for the rear. I haven't seen a set for the GS that's insanely stiff.

Perhaps you've been looking at zeal coilovers?
