Default Hmmm, Cutting bump stops for Tanabe DF210s?

Something I overlooked for a while:

Was I supposed to cut the bump stops when I installed the Tanabe DF210s? If so, how much? I wonder if that's the reason why my front is a little higher than I like.

I just installed DF210's and throught the same thing. push down on the front of your car and it should go down quite a bit, which means you aren't sitting on the bump stops. If the front doesn't budge, you probably are sitting on the bump stops but, I don't see how you would be since mine has a good 1" or so of drop before I can feel the bump stop hit.

when i swapped out my OEM for bilstein shocks and eibach springs, i forgot to cut the bump stops and even a one inch change in the road would feel very harsh. after i swapped them out for my tein, another CL member bought my bilstein/eibach setup and the bump stops were cut prior to install.

that fixed the problem!

good luck

Okay thanks. I'll look into it further; some time in the future before I get my alignment.

When installing aftermarket springs /shock combos.. its normal that you have to cut around about 1/3 off the bump stop

hmm, is leaving about an inch of the bumpstops sufficient enough? Important for me too know since I'm getting my suspension swapped very soon.

I need this answered too. I'm going to be changing to l-tuned/espelir in the next couple of weeks. What is the advantage of cutting the bump stop as to not doing so? Also, is the top or bottom of the bump stop cut? LOL

you'll want to cut the bump stops because you need to give your shocks a little more room to compress since you're shortening the length of travel by putting in a shorter spring.

if you don't cut them, you'll be bottoming out more than you should and of course ride quality will suck.

I had done this to another car after calling Tokico and they instructed to cut 1/2 of the Bumpstop, and I won't lose the warrantee of the Illumina struts. I was on H&R Sports at the time.

I did notice a harsher ride on the freeway when going over a series of bumps on a certain patch of road.

Looks like I'm gonna have to rent a spring compressor again.

really? My first suspention set up was DFs and I did not have any issues.
Maybe your struts are bad if you are using oem or if it's 300 the spring rate is softer, maybe that's why.

Yeah I'm on OEM struts. The ride is fine everywhere I go, except on this one patch of freeway that I always go on during my daily commute. The patch of freeway has a series of bumps, which causes cars to bounce.

ok, now you got me curious; does this apply to all aftermarket springs (assuming i have springs that will drop as much as/close to DFs)?

does cutting these bumpstops lower the car more?
