Default Front Suspension Clunk over bumps and turning, any ideas?

I replaced the following:
  • balljoints
  • tie-rod ends
  • lower control arms
  • springs/shocks
  • strut top mounts
  • driver side inner tie-rod

I just tighened all bolts on swaybars and entire front end, including subframe, brakes, etc.

It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side, the Lexus dealership said they can't find anything obvious and want $500 to start tearing it apart.

HELP!

Have hear this problem before. Mine does the same but only on bumps, unsteady road. Maybe some W40 on top of the struts mounts resolve a little. (opening the hood)

I had this problem going over speed bumps and any sort of incline/driveway. I changed the balljoints/tierods/control arm brushings (complete set)/sway bars w/ brushings and had my mechanic re-torque all bolts and nuts to spec.

Problem fixed for me. It was the balljoints. Hope others can help chime in.

No not WD 40.. try silicon on the strut cushions and other rubber components. I have had the same issue after ball joints.. lube it up with silicon spray...

End links will clunk when they go bad. You replace the strut bar but I didn't hear you mention anything about the end links. Did you replace that?

I've had a clunking problem in a previous car I had. I heard it over every major bump and when shifting also (momentum going forward). I though it was the struts, control arm maybe...Ended up being a motor mount bolt that was not fully in place. Sure enough after tightening the bolt down all the way the clunking stopped.
I doubt my example is your problem but just sharing my experience on the similar issue

Silicon spray for me too and recheck every suspension arm and link especially if they are adjustable. If you are already underneath your car inspecting one part why not perform a thorough check of all suspension parts and even your chassis bracing.

My IS does it too but its the balljoint on the upper control arm hitting the shock tower because there is no room for it to travel because the car is too low. Not sure if thats the problem your having but thats the loud clunk i hear over bumps.

I changed the shock absorbers together with the upper struts base. I bought Sensen Shocks) The clunk almost gone away. But still a little in minor scale. My mech. said is the stabilization bar rubber joints. didn't change it so far. (have 162k mlies on it) Next repair is the timing belt and motor mounts... The new shocks make it ride like new.

Believe it or not, I had the same problem.
I checked ball joints, end links, sway bar bushings, lower control arm bushings....and nothing seemed as though would cause that sound.
Only noticable defect was my control arm bushing was starting to tear/crack.

Long story short, my alignment was way off. The front toe was so off, the inner tires wore so quickly, a new set had to be installed. Once the tires were done, I did a four wheel alignment and noticed my front toe was so off, it was putting more stress on the endlinks, which caused that abnormal noise over bumps.
- hope this helps
