Brake "winding down" noise
 

Just replaced all four brakes with oem pads, turned the rotor, replaced the fluids and brand new Michelin Pilot Sports PS2 235-45-17 tires. Car is completely stock and the first thing I noticed is a low but annoying "winding down" noise when I'm slowing down. When I let go the brake pedal, the noise goes away and it's only audible when the speed is between 30mph going down to 20mph while braking. No shudder, shaking, clicking, it doesn't pull to one side or any other weird noises I read on this forum. I can't tell which side it's coming from but I'll go drive it some more and see if the noise diminishes. Any comments? It's a 01 GS430. Thanks.

What kind of rotors do you have? How good are your shims?

yeah i noticed the same problem on my car, but i feel a slight humm/vibration under my feeet.

Its like a wheel hub/bearings going bad.

it's called groaning. how many miles were on the rotors? where did you get your pads from?

your rotors may have had slight disc thickness variation thus causing the groan noise. may want to also look into what brand the pads are. they may just need some time to get broken in.
