I have a question to the DIY, when putting the new pads in, do you slide the shim/pad in and then conpress it so it can go in ? or do you just slip it in and it will stay in ?

pad and shim go in together at once. Its easy to do...Brian and myself will post a DIY for the rear pads in the next week. They require a little more work the the fronts on the IS350. So far I put about 50 miles on the pads and just standard stopping is great! and my rims are still clean After the break in period I will post more about the pads.

We should have taken some pics as well Mike (LOL). I should point out that some aftermarket performance pads have a rubber backing to the pad which reduces vibration and allows for less chattering in the caliper. Having said this, you typically only use one shim of the two OEM ones for proper fitment. Koz had a good point several posts into this thread. He stated that he changes his brake pads before there is a 1/4 left in order to prolong the rotor life. This was a great point.

Great write-up. I love how easy the front pads are to change, reminds me of my sport bikes.

Default Quick Question

Great thread! Does anyone know if changing the front and back brakes on an IS250 AWD similar to this?

There's obviously a lot of 250 owners wanting a DIY, so I'll extend this offer: if a 250 owner in the Los Angeles area needs their brakes changed, I'll change your brakes for free (as long as you buy the pads) so I can post a DIY.
