Default Need suggestions on shocks.

Hi,

I need to replace my shocks. I have already purchased brand new L-tuned springs, and want some sort of comparable shock. I was hoping Bilstein HD shocks were available for my 2001 GS430, but it is looking like they are not. I just can't seem to find them anywhere.

Can anyone suggest another really quality shock that will be close to stock stiffness.

I have heard the KYB shock is basically the old l-tuned shock and is still available...
I dont know if it is a specific model of shock, but others would know...

anyone?

The part number for KYB GR-2 shocks for GS400 is SM5205. Not sure if it's the same part number for GS430 though.

Thanks guys. I am not sure either, but everywhere I go, the only bilstein that is available for my car is that Coil-Over system. Which is not what I want. It also seems that the gs300 and gs400 share some shocks, but the gs430 is completely different. This sux.

See, here lies the problem. I don't really live in McDonalds. I live in NYC. The roads here are so bad, unless you come here, you will not understand. I just came back from CA. I was in Chino, LA, and SF on business. The worst roads I have experienced in CA, were a million times better than in NY.

I drove a car with Tein, that thing was way too rough for NY. It did have 18" rims, but still, I thought the car would fall apart on the Belt Parkway (local highway). The functionality is nice, but it is just way too much for me. So I have a plan to solve some handling problems. I will try to stay with the softer, spring and shock setup, while getting stiffer sway-bars, and additional bracing. I think I should be able to maintain a decent ride, while improving handling just a bit.

I need someone to recommend a good shock for me. GR-2 are crap I think, I never liked them, had them on an I30T before and on a Maxima, Bilsteins are sweet my brothers two BMWs. Koni Yellows might be overkill. I don't know what else to do. I hope I don't end up with GR-2s.

Why do you say GR-2 are crap? I run on them for over 40K miles already, and find them pretty discent. Little rougher than stock, but still ok.

I don't know. I was not impressed with them on my I30T. I hope that you are right because it looks like I may be stuck with them. I only wish I knew someone out here that has them to give me a ride. Thanks for your input.

Can you or anyone else confirm that the GS430 and GS400 shocks are the same exact thing. If so, than my problem is solved. Thanks.

the GS300/400 shocks are all the same as 01-05 GS shocks.

Seems like they are all the same for GS 300/400/430. Well, logically if the Tein coilovers are the same for all of them, then shocks/struts should also be the same.

Cool thanks guys. I just noticed your replies, I have to say that is some great re-assurance. I ordered them.

I also called up Bilstein, they told me that as long as the years match up, I should be fine. They say that the car model numbers are usually not up to date, but the years are.
