The Best Coilover For The Buck?
Been waiting on a good deal for tein flex coilovers and I could be waiting til I turn grey... Can anyone point me in the right direction of a coilover setup that will lower the car 1 or 2 inches from stock and offer reasonalbe dampening force....I hear maybe the supra coilovers are the best bang for the buck used or Tein basic's.... Anyone?

you get wut u pay for pretty much. and some is preference. Wut do u plan on doin? Looks like u got urself a really nice set up.
ive always thought german coilovers were the best, but pricey, and japanese stuff was decent and fairly priced. i love how some german coilovers have the helper spring and recently i have seen them on the tanabe coilovers. But i hear tanabe is cheap prices and quality. id say just wait a bit, save some money and go to some meets, ride in some cars and just try to feel things out. GL w/ ur decision |

Even when a good deal comes up, how much do you plan on spending for a used set? $900? Supra coilovers = SC coilovers, same thing... Sounds like you're willing to spend only $500 or so...so get the Basics, drop your car 1-2 inches and be done with it...you'll be spending around $500 anyways for a spring/shock combo... |
I would like to spend no more then $1000 for a set of tein flex coilovers....Came close once or twice on Ebay..... Looking for an alternative now and getting impatient....... Dampening force adjustment for off the line traction is the most important, and right height adjusting for the lowering effect for handling and looks, and it would be nice to be able to raise the car when towing, oil changes, car washes, etc...
In cabin contral box are the plans.....That is an additional cost that I did not mention that I will put out so, now the $1300 becomes $1700 retail...Ouch... That is what I want but $1300 is alot of money...Even for a guy that plays hard  I guess you can say I have Champaign taste on a beer budget.... With that being said may I have a 12 pack of Bud please :D |
You wouldn't want to see the price of coilovers my side of the world then eh.
Get a set of Tein Super Streets, can't go wrong with them. |
I have the megan racing coilover prototypes on my car right now. Just switched out my D2's. Give me a few more days on them, and i'll have a review up. IIRC they should be out on the market Mid-summer.

Thanks for the input fellas....It sounds like you guys are very happy with the Super Street Tein coilovers...Do those offer ride height variations? Also I did not know Megan made coilovers, I have their mufflers and I am happy with them... Let us know about these Megan Coilovers...
Could you guys give me and Idea what I should expect to pay for these coilovers....Teins SS and Megans? Like what would be a good deal type thing..... |
D2's
I'd like to hear more about other options besides Tein and HKS, too. I was looking into purchasing a set of D2's for my SC300, but I'm still not 100% sure about their reliability/build quality or performance. PJ, could you share your experience with them and why you switched over to the Megan Racing coilvoers? I'm guessing since the Megan's are prototypes, they aren't available to the public yet. Is there a release date? How far are they into the development of the product?
Thanks, Jon |
megan buys old susp.
i called to sell them mine, but they already had ours being made, so if they're just at prototype now, give em a bit longer great coilovers for the cost, like silk roads :p |
What do you guys think of the Tanabe Sustec Pro S-S coilovers for the sc300?
|
id save the money and get the hks hipermax's for a supra. They are harder than the coilovers for the sc.
|
Do the SS teins of Basics offer a lower then stock ride height? Got to have that 1" to 2" drop....Stock ride height just doesn't look good.....
|
I don't know why people love the Tein ss so much.
They are overly soft (and not confortable soft, but more of a bouncy soft) and you still have a bit of body roll during turns and my settings are always around the stiffest setting too. If you can pull out 1g for SS's you can save 3 hundred more and get the flex's. |
