Question strange suspension rattle

I drove my wife's '00 GS4 last night and confirmed her complaint of suspension noise. With about 100k miles, I imagine it must be time for new shocks. I haven't crawled under the car yet, but there seems to be lots of clanging whenever rough roads are encountered. The banging seems to be coming from the passenger side, equally from the front and rear wheels.

Anything specific you'd recommend I check?

Other than the shocks, could something be loose?

Thanks for your input,

Patrick

Take it to the dealer and have the ball joints checked immediately. This is no joke. You don't want those to fail on the highway.....

Did you ever get the strange noise taken care of?

yep, check those ball joints.. then have your dealer inspect all your suspension bolts and such to make sure everything is tight

Smile Strange Suspension Rattle

I recently got a used 98 GS 400 and I think I have the problem you mentioned. Did you fix the problem? If so, do you mind telling me, what it was?

Thanks

yesterday, after replacing the shocks & springs, the wrattling noise was still there. The mechanics were puzzled, but they did not test drive it before the S&S replacement. After rechecking their work, they discovered the bolts holding the right-side brake calipers (front & rear) were loose. After properly torquing them, the rattle was solved.

My wife chuckled with the mechanics and mentioned that her bozo-husband (me) recently changed the pads!

I've been changing brake pads on cars for 30 years and I've never had that problem, but I'll be sure to check it next time. might be time for some loctite....
