HELP-In the middle of brake job/have question/problem
I'm doing the front brakes on my ES. I can not get these springs to stay on while I pop the pads in. do they have to be there? is there a trick to get them in. I'm going crazy here.....
any help will be greatly appreciated.
these are the springs...

I don't recall exactly what I did cause it was a while ago, but I think I tried to attach the springs to both pads and slip both of them into the caliper. Yeah it's not easy to do and I can't explain more detail without going back and looking at the brake in front of me.
But like I said, after a couple of trys, I got one pad partially in and then carefully slipped in the second , all without having the spring fall off.
Not sure if you could duct tape one side in place and then pull it off after it's in. Also I think getting one side of the clip in was more of a challenge than the other. I just remember I had to do it in a certain order.
Good Luck

The pads sit in the torque plate with the caliper rotated out of the way on the upper sliding pin. You remove the lower sliding pin. With the pads sitting in the torque plate, the springs are very easy to set in place. Here's a good tutorial, the old LS400 has the same front brakes as the GS:
