Default abs light comes on (electrical issue) while driving.

hello people, sorry this is my first post, i have searched and unfortunately i cant find anything to resolve my issue, keep in mind my problem recently develop after i changed the clutch fan.

it was dark yesterday so i dont know if i unplugged something.

anyway here is my problem:

i recently bought an sc300 5spd and after two weeks i found out it has a frozen clutch fan.

it is also my first time tinkering with the car. so i burrowed my brother's clutch fan from 2jzgte.

it worked fine all day saturday with it, it allowed me to drive around the whole day looking for a

replacement clutch. so i found one but it was one of those 55 dollar ones. i installed that last

night (sunday) then test drove the car. during the test drive, all of my dash lights turn off and it

feels like the engine cuts off, also all of my driving lights turn off. all of these cuts off

momentarilly then back on again. so i assume it was the clutch i installed. i was leaning more

towards that because i could barely spin the new clutch. i drove back home, put on my brother's

clutch fan and test drove that, i also returned the aftermarket clutch fan to autozone.

at this point i was unable to duplicate my issue.

monday morning: i was on the highway headed to work, i notice it happened again, i also notice the engine feels ok (i really have no way of telling if the engine cuts off or not because it is naturally "smooth running" hope that made sense) .
my rpm dropped slightly, lights turns off, and abs lights turns on. all momentarily.
this only happened everytime i pressed the brake pedal. this happened numerous times until i arrived to work. i noticed my clock reset - it no longer has the right time.

so now i assume maybe the ecu resets during this mishaps =(
i am scared i might fry something if i keep this up. i am at work right now and i dont have time to tinker until afterhours. i also leave around 5pm which gets dark here. so when this happens my driving lights also goes off momentarily.

i figured someone here can suggest something, or experienced similar problem.

my plans for tonite is:

check fuses.

check for any loose wires around alternator and abs area

check diagnostic code - i need help with this- is it the same for lexus? i have a toyota supra and i check codes by connecting te1 and e1.

my car is a 95 sc300 5spd

please help someone thanks.

From what you described about power cutting in an out only while braking, and the clock resetting, you should check ALL of your electrical grounds. This is a pretty common problem with the earlier SC3s, I had it happen with my 94 SC3. A new grounding cable solved everything.

Default update

Update: Dec 27 2005 Monday 1:30pm.

i had an hour lunch break so i decided to drive it around,

so far so good =(

i was unable to duplicate the problem.

now that you mentioned ground. i think im leaning more on something came loose during the

morning drive. and i am sure it will behave the same way again randomly.

hopefully it is ground. i really hate chasing gremlins. =/

the fan clutch install was just a coincidence.

i tried checking codes by connecting te1 and e1 but it seems thats not the way to pull them in

these cars, unless i didnt connect them good.

i will keep this updated time to time.

is your battery light on? this could be the beginnings of your alternator taking a dump!

That really only happens on the SC400's, because their PS pump is directly above the alternator. Ours are located in different areas. I'm fairly certain you just have bad grounding. It happens to everyone.
