Has anyone replaced the Bilstein PSS front springs with a softer spring?

Has anyone replaced the Bilstein PSS coilovers front springs with a softer spring? Say a 9 or 10 rather than the 12.25 it comes with? If so - is the ride a little more comfortable?

I'm very interested in this setup - but due to the wife issue want to make sure these will still be comfortable. I was thinking if the front springs were swapped with a softer spring it could make all the difference - let me know.

I'm deciding between the PSS, the Tein CS, and the HKS LS+.

I've never read of anyone contemplating this... it kinda defeats the purpose of buying coilovers in the first place... the joint design of integrated / complimentary spring / shock combination.

Have you ridden in a GS with the Bilstein and found the ride to stiff for you? If so, definitely get something else.

why go through all that when you can just get the Tein CS. I can vouch that they feel just as comfy, yet more stable and controlable compared to stock.

No, I haven't ridden in a gs with the PSS system - just noticing here on the board a wide range of people either thinking they are close to stock to others who think they are way too stiff. I klke the lifetime warranty over tein - but do want something comfortable but yet tight and sporty. So, just thought if the front springs were swapped it would make it more comfortable.

Although not quite as cut and dry, comfort has more to do with shock valving and handling with spring rates. If you swap out the springs, you will hurt handling while not gaining much in terms of comfort.

Like Dave said, the two are meant to work together and I am not saying you should not experiment. I just think the result is not quite what you had intended.

The Tein CS are softer even at its stiffest setting than the HKS LS+ at a fairly soft setting. Just to give you an idea, and if I remember correctly the spring rates are only 1 higher on the HKS LS+ coilovers.

Remember, though, that these settings are settings on the shocks and not the springs.

BC-GS430 - How do you like the ride with your HKS LS+ coilovers? Sounds like you have ridden in cars with the tein CS coils too - how do they compare? Thanks

i would vouch for the HKS. I have some on my car and it rides great. I had PSS and they were a bit too stiff for my liking. I would not buy PSS and change the springs which you could. I also looked into this and was told that Eibach makes springs for the PSS. I decided to sell my PSS.

Save yourself some money and buy either the HKS or the CS, you can't go wrong. I'm more biased toward the HKS because it has 30 adjustment points. I have mine on soft. I believe if you want, the HKS can be adjusted lower than the CS for that slammed look.

I have ridden on a GS with CS and the ride is similar to mine.

Hope this helps.

A friend of mine has a GS with Teins and edfc. IMO the Teins are more comfy at any setting and not to harsh. I can get the HKS to ride like stock but it allows much more adjustablity than the Teins. For example Tein's are 16 way adjustable, the HKS are 30. The HKS at 7 clicks from the softest is stiffer than the Tein's at its stiffest setting. Everyone has thier own opinion on stiffness, i think it would be best if you could ride in a car that has both. I'm up in norcal if your close by.

Why would you do it? the Bilsteins ride smooth already and is not harsh at all. i have family too and there are no complaints even with 19's on 30 series tires, in bumpy NYC. Leave it as is.
