Tein Flex preloading

My damn Tein FLEX from a JZA80 is too damn stiff. Will unloading the springs soften it any? I'm currently on 16/16

I had like 10/8 and it wasn't that bad...

It will help a little but there is only so much you can do. That front spring rate is pretty stiff although the shocks also have a lot to do with the ride quality. There is not much you can do about that on your own.

When I talked to Tein a couple of years back, they were willing to rework the system a bit (changing springs, revalving the shocks) but you basically get a system that is custom and not as fully tested as a production model. Plus it cost $. Maybe save up for the CS? :dunno:

is the CS softer spring rates? What if I just change out springs or run stock hats

The CS spring rates (10/6) are softer than the Flex (14/8). I would talk to Tein (or someone who knows the SC and the Teins) if youare serious about the spring swap. They set the front rear rates for a reason. Part of it is the shocks and part is also the car weight and other suspension parts. I would make sure the new springs are appropriate front back ratio otherwise it will change the behavior of the car.

As for the stock hats, is that even possible? :uh:

AFAIK you can't use OEM upper mounts on the Flex. The Tein SS have softer spring rates like the CS (according to their Japanese website).

We've done lots of custom spring sets on Tein coliovers, you can change the springs out, that should help a lot, but you still are limited by the "window" of what the intended use of the coilovers are.

The CS sounds like what you might be looking for. We have ONE set right now, if you want it let me know, it will probably be gone quick though
