Help please odd brake noise...

Mods can you please leave this up for a little while I posted in Maintance but no action in 2 days.

I had my rear brake pads changed once the Pads were changed. A funny noise started coming from them over speed bumps I noticed the noise only came from them when I pushed the brake pedal down once the pad made contact with the rotor no more noise. The only other time you hear noise coming from the rear brake is when the car is in Idol it very slight. The main thing that annoys me is when I push the brake pedal down its a real speaky sound.

I talked to the shop that did my brakes they said it might be the pads let them settle its been over 3 weeks now.

Does anyone have any idea's?

ummm, did the person who installed the pads put on the shim and fit kits correctly?

I agree 100% with rominL. Seems like someone competely forgot them.

well if you take out the rear pads, you should see a metal plate behind it, and it should be "glued" to the pads. that's what i am talking about. without that, you get noise

LasVegasGS 05-16-05 10:47 PM

I know for a fact that they didnt glue that plate in they just stuck it in there. If I take it to a diffrent brake shop would they know about glueing it back in place?

oh wait im talking about the shim... im talking about the part that pushes the pads off the rotor, the spring kit?, pix provided:

thats suppose to fit flush with the edge of the caliper.. its pretty difficult to get back into place check to see if thats sitting flush

rominl 05-16-05 11:55 PM

oh that's the locking clips for the pads. if that's loose then you have big time problems, the pads can come flying out. it has to be fully locked and nothing can move at all

about the metal plate, i don't know if that's real "glue" or what, but it's something that makes the plate get tight with the pads, that's all i know

It's not "glue". It's usually blue in colour. It's known as "anti-squeal compound". A name brand I've seen is "Disk Brake Quiet".
