Default Heat and steering wheel noise

Its that time of year again. My 98 GS300 steering wheel starts making noise when telescoping whenever the temp gets over 70 degrees. Any remedies? Dealer talked about expensive replacement.

Is there a way where you can just lock it in one position for the time being? Maybe a fuse or something. It's probably nothing major. Heat causes expansion in the plastics, so it could be just that. Dunno, try wd40, or armorall the plastic.

Default Wd40

Tried WD40, still grinding, found info on replacing worm gear on Club Lexus but it was for sc300/400, gs has different gear set up. Im sure someone has had this problem with a GS300.
I can pull the fuse, but I think I'll lose my power seats too. Any thoughts out there?

There's a C-BEST setting that the dealer can change to disable the automatic telescoping/retracting feature. To the best of my knowledge there's no DIY way to do it in our cars.. Good luck.

Default You are not alone

I have a 98 GS 400 and I live in GA. I thought I was the only one, but when the temperature gets high It makes the same screeching noise when telescoping. No remedies yet, i have just blew it off as the plastic rubbing.
