Rear Brake Rotor Question--Is that a balance weight?

Default Rear Brake Rotor Question--Is that a balance weight?

On my rear rotors, I see what appears to be a weight. Is that for balancing? Do you remove it and put it in the rear rotors? I have had many cars, but have never seen this...what is it, and why is it there? Just curious...thanks!!
