On stock 17"s do I drop or no drop with eibach+bilstein combo?
I have stock 17"s on my 2nd gen GS.
I have a set of eibach springs in the garage and I plan on picking up a set of bilstein shocks to lower the car...
But -
Will my GS look like crap w/ stock 17" wheels?
What do you all think?

D-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-do it!
L-Tuned dropped me a little more than an inch tho it certainly looked like more when it was first done (but measured out 1.25", just as it was supposed to). Nothing but compliments (even from HER) as a result.
It's all good!

Eibach / Blistein on my GS with 17's back in 2002.

ok- i decided to do it.
However- I have hesitations about the install since everyone has had problems with their ABS/VSC sensors - getting the L-tuned steering ECU - 4 wheel alignments being needed...
I just bought the bilstein shocks from another CL member and now I'm into this 'project' for $600. Is it REALLY worth it if I have to change everything else out? I just want my car to handle like a bmw 5-series. I don't want this to end up being a $1,000 project after lowering the car.
2 Questions:
1) Will my stock steering ECU be fine?
2) Anyone know of a good diy photo-by-photo install of a suspension setup? Whenever I do a search, I find the IS300 guys have a ton of photos for installs and how-to's but us GS guys always forget a camera when that stuff is going on...
Help please.
Thanks!
DaveGS4 - I was going to PM you about your suspension installs but I didn't wanna clutter up your inbox. Do you have any photos of the install process?
NT2SHBBY- Thanks for the photo preview of what I can expect my car to look like. I noticed you had some issues during your installation when the ABS/VSC sensors got screwed - I read somewhere that as long as the mounting screws/points for the wires are unscrewed at both the shock and the vehicle - i'll be fine.
Is that true?
Thanks guys/gals.

let me say this....every single car looks nice when dropped i mean seriously..the normal 5 finger wheel gap really makes the car look like a 4 x 4 ....even if you dont plan to upgrade wheels....a drop would make the car look soo much better ...I see your thinking about going with the shock and spring combo...thats fine...but i just wanna let you know...that coilovers would be a better route...because you can adjust it to your liking...a lot of members here on CL went from the spring and shock combo to coilovers...i know its a little more expensive but its well worth it!

2 Questions:
1) Will my stock steering ECU be fine? Yes The L-tuned ECU is only a 'nice to have' and has no impact on your setup here. Do it whenever you have time.

Sorry no, I don't have any of mine. I do have some pictures where we tried installing a set of L-tuned shocks and espiler springs on another members GS. End result is - I always recommend that you pay somebody to do it. Had problems with the spring compressor, etc.
Here are some pics, it's no means a DIY... just documents the pain....
http://www.somniplex.com/gallery/Zai...ic_0204?page=4 from about 1/2 way down and and also look at page 5
1sicklex was there, he had enough about 1am.
For stock BMW-like handling on the GS, IMO all you need is the springs/shocks you're putting on and a set of sways (TRD or Daizen). After that, its all better than...

Thanks for the reply Dave! Looks like 1sicklex had enough of the whole thing after a while. Makes me wish I lived in CA so I could hang out with you guys/gals.
I liked the photos and after doing as much reading as I could on the subject, it sounds as though the only thing I really need to look out for is the VSC/ABS sensor wires that need to be disconnected at 2 points (one on the shock and one on the frame) to ensure the wires don't hyperextend and ruin the sensor (costly mistake). Anything else I need to look out for other than user friendly spring compressors?
As far as making the car feel more BMWI-ish - the sways sound COOL!! There are so many brands and mods out there, my eyes tend to glaze over as I read everyone's signature/mod list.
A quick search on Daizen sways yielded two things though.
1) Daizen sways are available from both TM Engineering (.net) and Sewell Lexus. Great!
2) Some have said that Sewell is cheaper but the prices quoted on their sites are the same. Hmmm.
Anyone know which one is cheaper?

This is for a coilover setup, but it's very similiar. Your welcome :-)
The guy in the pics is Will, one of our own! CL rules!

I'm sick so I'm having a shop do the install...
I was at the shop today and they were saying how the alignment may be an issue.
How many of you have had problems with the eibach/bilstein combo? I don't want to eat up my tires like crazy after this mod because them tires are expensive!
