HELP... Tom's Front LCB Rubbing....

I just recently purchased the Tom's Front LCB from Carson Toyota and to my surprise when I went to install it today, the bottom bar of the brace hits the tranny. It bolts on, but it rubs the tranny and makes grinding noise when engine is on. I searched CL and all the pics of the brace are not even close to touching the tranny. I already contacted Steve, but I was wondering if any one else has come across the same problem I am having. I hope mine is just a defect. Compared to the stock brace it is lower. The stock brace clears the tranny. Any help was be great. By the way I have a 98 GS4.

I had the same problem. Used some small spacers [washers] to get the clearance - no issues.

I thought I had an old thread on the subject but a quick search did not find it.

Thanks. Will try that out.

yeah i have read about that before too (other than from red). just some washers and that would do it ;))

I had the same problem with mine, I think it is because the toms parts where originaly designed for the aristo 300V that uses a 4 speed tranny wich probably does not sit as low as our trannys. I just used washers as well and it worked.

nah, just for clarification, the trd fits no problem, and never rub. had that on my car for a long time and all good. never heard about problems from others too

it's this thick... haha Never got around to measuring but it's a huge difference over stock and a slight difference over the TRD. It's a sold unit and pretty heavy duty. Biggest and badest of them all.

For the swing arms? Or maybe he just through them into the picture to make you guess. :p

what does the addition of spacers do the the effectiveness, I could see where it might reduce the overall rigidity of the brace since the longer screw space between the brace and the chassis can act as a pivot point if you understand what I mean.

Really? I compared the TRD one to the Tom's one and that top bar was in the same location and it looks like it would rub also, but didn't try to actually put on. My mistake.

well at least i hope it's not rubbing. never heard any noise, and ih ave been under the car couple of times when the car is on the rack. not touching anything at all though

i would imagine it's a veyr tight fit on the tom's just hit i guess?
