yeah, you can just ask them to shave the fender (i suppose it's the rears?). i think you have too high of an offset. just shave it and you should be fine

Cut off some of the fender tab/lip. If you look at the fender wheel well, there is a little lip that is covered by a black trim. Cut some of it off to give you more room.

I know what is meant by this, but I've never seen pictures of where its been done.

Does anybody have some good clear pics of shaving (and the end result) they can share? (and no Henry, this doesn't mean you with the Gillette in the AM )

im not so sure "cutting" would be a gret idea. i did this before and maybe too much was cut off but it caused a seperation between the fender well and the actual body panel. it seperated because the trim was the 2 panels pressed together. the shop only cut off 1/2 of the trim and caused this to happen.

Which trim and 2 panels are you talking about?

There's no problem with the body panel separating from the fender since we typically only need to take off half of the lip.

Rolling the GS fender is not as good a method since the black trim would need to be removed, plus there is always a chance of paint cracking at the rolled edge.

I've done shaving on a bunch of NorCal cars over the past 3 years and we have not seen any problems from shaving the lip.

We usually need to grind off the lip up to the screw heads that are holding the black trim.

In extreme clearance cases we have gone a lot further and actually removed the trim and the screws all-together, without any problem.

Here's the stock lip.

The shaving is done using a belt sander and 50 or 80 grit sandpaper.

Here's the finished lip with about 1/4 inch of the material removed. You can see that we shaved away all the material up to where the screw heads are.

There are some cautions that need to be taken when using a belt sander. I better do a full DIY write up in the near future. I promise.

Now for the front fender there is some slight rolling that can be done without much risk of cracking paint, plus some plastic forming of the inner liner with a heat gun.

I shaved the rear lip and rolled the front lip on the wifeys IS.

Thanks for the pics RMMGS4. Saves me from having to take off the wheel to get the camera in there.
