Default Independent Lexus Mechanic- Huntsville/Nashville area

I have a 1999 LS400 currently at 92K miles and I still have about 2K miles to go for the next scheduled service (95K). I plan to combine the overdue 90K mile service with the timing belt service. In the mean time, I am checking the best affordable service options from best Lexus certified service centers in Huntsville area. Nashville is a closer city.

Dealership wants $2.2K for the timing belt and 90K mile service. What is the best price for this? I was wondering to buy the OEM parts online (sewell) and get pay for labor to keep the overall service affordable.

I may even drive to neighboring states like VA, TN, GA to get this done at an affordable price. I saw members reporting Chantilly at VA. How is their service and cost?

Any thoughts on this? Thanks

its hard to compare apples with apples if we don't know what is all included in the $2,200 the dealership quoted you.

typically, 90k in my eyes, includes timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, spark plugs, trans and diff drain and refill, and front main seal. pending on condition of other seals/gaskets, they may need replacement as well, cam seals, valvecover gaskets, orings, rotor/rotor buttons, oil change, brake fluid change, etc.

Pm from a good friend of mine name and number. He is ASE verified Lexus mechanic. He used to work for Lexus in Nashville. He now works out of his garage. Me and him both can do the service for alot less. We are in Huntsville.
I would replace the cam seals, crank seal, timing belt tensioner, all pullies, thermostat, water pump, belts, and flush the radiator. Might replace the hoses also if they appear cracked or dry rotted. JMO.

Default Burning Oil in my `02 RX300

1JZPWRD....do you know any reputable Lexus Mechanics in Nashville that can give me an honest evaluation of my `02 RX300 that is using a lot of oil at 120,000 miles? I cannot afford the Lexus dealership. I may have the dreaded sludge issue......Car runs great, but is burning abnormal amounts of oil and on occasion blows the blue smoke........Thanks

Thumbs up Superior Automotive in Birmingham, Alabama keyword honest.

I took my 2006 GS300 to Danny at Superior and can't say enough about his honesty. It was my first visit and unbeknownst to me what I thought was the beginning of a rear main seal leak was far less troublesome. Told him I had the Lexus service recall overhaul and was concerned about the oil burning on the exhaust. He looked at it and called the dealership and verified it was still under their warranty. He even offered to drive it to the dealership for me. I declined since he was not charging me anything. Dealership fixed leaking oil dipstick o-ring and gave me a loaner. After they tried to scare me with the usual "who changes your oil? we have to verify they did not break anything since we don't do your service" CRAP. $168 for basically a oil change and a car wash and a free call to try to sell you more crap you don't need. But I Digress, If your in Birmingham, AL you could do a lot worse than Superior Automotive downtown. Danny Bedgood is owners name. I will be going back.
