Key won't turn in ignition after charging cable fell off

We were charging my 97 Lexus and at the same time my husband removed the mobile phone. The ground connection to the charger fell off the battery and it sparked when it was put back on. Could this cause the key not to be able to turn in the ignition. Can't start car.
