Default Are there no chassis codes?

How come it's almost always the Japanese car forums that I go to, that the chassis codes/names are not listed, or at least put in with the forum description.

IMO, it's much more easier, and less confusing to talk about a car by it's chassis code, as you have a smaller chance by mixing it up with something else because of a simple typo.

We don't do it because a large population of our members don't have any idea about Lexus chassis codes, even the enthusiasts. They aren't as widespread in popular use as say BMW (E36) or Porsche (997) ... even with Lexus techs. IMO it would be more confusing except for a handfull of the hardcore.

Okay. I get it now. But why not try it or something? IMHO, not many people know them, because not many people see them.

Do you have a list of the chassis codes by any chance?

As I said above, I don't think it's something that we want to foster because its more confusing than helpful in most cases (especially for new members). We already have lots of terms and codes with Japanese models (Aristo, Windom, Celsior, etc) and engine codes (2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GTE, 1uz, etc etc)

If you want to gather them all I'll be glad to make it a sticky somewhere on the forum I know only a few but not all of them JZS160/161 for the 2GS/Aristo , UCF30/UCF31 for LS430/Celsior

Oh wow. No wonder they don't use them as much. They are about one off for the Japanese and the 'American' models.

I prefer the E39, or W221 than the UCF30.

Thanks anyway!

What I came up with to simply things is throwing the generation number BEFORe the car.

Thus 1GS is 93-07, 2GS is 98-05, etc

Many have started to use it. Its not official but I think it helps.
