Japanese site RESPONSE on the next Lexus IS
The IS debuted in Europe in 1999 as a Lexus version of the Toyota Altezza (later the IS300 would also be deployed in North America). In addition to aiming at differentiation by mounting an in-line 6 cylinder engine to the in-line 4 cylinder of Altezza, it gained popularity as a high-end four-door sedan, and was sold in Japan from the Lexus brand in the second generation that appeared in 2005. In the next model, we will use the “TNGA” (LNGA at Lexus) platform for FRs to be shared with the new “Crown”. Including the wheelbase, the overall length, width and height are expected to be slightly expanded.
The Powertrain will feature a 2.0-liter in-line 4-cylinder turbo engine as the entry model and a lineup of 2.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder "Dynamic Force Engine" + electric motor hybrid shared with the crown. The newly developed 2.4 liter in-line four-cylinder downsizing turbo is expected to replace the current 3.5-liter V-6 engine, and it can be expected to improve torque, response and horsepower.
The highlight is the resurgence of the second-generation "F" model. It is expected to be equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine that delivers the maximum output of 422ps, and will be combined with a 10-speed AT.
Exterior design has been changed significantly from the current sedan silhouette to the coupe silhouette that incorporates the inclination to the front and rear parts. Along with that, it is expected that the glamour will be emphasized by the design that has a bulge around the rear. In addition, the L-type LED has been enlarged to a design that adds sharpness to the headlights and corner air intakes, and a front end with more attractive presence in the vertical triple projector lights can be expected.

Please, please Lexus, bring back the IS F. And when you do, pretty please bring the hood seam down to the grill.

The non-hidden hood seam line is always a pet peeve of mine. Though I wouldn't be surprised to find it on the next IS as the new ES kept it and they added it to the LS.

4-cylinder is a hard pass for me. Here's a clean text version
The scoop site Spyder7 gets information about the Lexus mid-size 4-door sedan "IS" next generation. Based on the information, I made a forecast CG.
The IS debuted in Europe in 1999 as a Lexus version of the Toyota Altezza (later IS300 will also be deployed in North America). In addition to aiming at differentiation by mounting an in-line 6 cylinder engine to the in-line 4 cylinder of Altezza, it gained popularity as a high-end four-door sedan, and was sold in Japan from the Lexus brand in the second generation that appeared in 2005. The strongest model "IS F" was set for the first time in 2007.
In the next model, we will use the “TNGA” (LNGA at Lexus) platform for FRs to be shared with the new “Crown”. Including the wheelbase, the overall length, width and height are expected to be slightly expanded.

Respectfully, I think I am going to side with the I6 from BMW camp. It seems that Toyota is very interested in a number of partnerships the last while. For some reason, it makes total sense for them to go the partnership route for the IS model.

2.4T is likely one of these. And LC F is likely one of these
This guy might of figured out what the new 'Lexus work horse' will be to replace the GR series:
This guy might of figured out what the new 'Lexus work horse' will be to replace the GR series:
Between the naturally aspirated A25A and V35A-FTS there is one engine what this forum calls the 'main workhorse engine' (though it kind of isn't), a long overdue replacement for the now over-a-decade-old GR series. Two possibilities exist: the preferred solution is the six cylinder V30A-FTS while the less desirable (but financially more reasonable for Toyota) solution is the four cylinder A25A-FTS. Either design could fit perfectly in the 225-270kW(300-370hp) range, the former benefiting from a bigger displacement and the latter capable of using twin-scroll turbochargers. Regardless of the final choice, this engine is crucial for Lexus' performance models.

Is it really that hard to make a small displacement I-6 have similar mileage to an I-4? Straight 6 sounds and feels so much better this kinda matters in a sporty car.
